Madeline Black

Madeline’s life pursuit is exploring the organization of human movement through the locomotor system. Over 30 years in the field of movement, her curiosity explores all aspects of movement in dance, Pilates, yoga, Gyrotonic®, fitness training and from studies of human biomechanics, human cadaver dissection labs, osteopathic and manual therapies. The second edition of Madeline’s book, “Centered: Organizing the body through Kinesiology, Movement Theory and Pilates techniques” was published in 2022. A forthcoming book “Pilates Applications for Health Conditions: programs and perspectives” is scheduled for release in spring of 2025.

Madeline developed the Madeline Black Method™, an advanced movement approach that transforms the body for better movement, health, and improved physical capacity. Through her intensive trainings in over 20 countries, movement professionals all over the world have gained the confidence and expertise needed to approach, identify, and assess movement patterns and apply their newly acquired skills to develop efficient plans and effective movement sequences for their clients.

Madeline has filmed many workshops and movement classes for Pilates Anytime and Fusion

Pilates EDU Online. She is a sought-after conference presenter, most notably at Cognition and Movement Conference, Harvard University and Balanced Body’s Pilates On Tour both US and international venues.

Madeline holds a B.S. in Physical Education and Dance from Skidmore College, NY and many body based certifications such as NCPT, ACSM, 200 RYT and others. She has a private practice in Sonoma, CA USA.
